Sting pursues that moment between balance and flight where the precise distribution of mass, form and space activate the sculpture. Inspired by observation of the natural marine world, it is intended to embody complexity, movement and violent interaction - a sense of sudden motion frozen in a moment of time. Reduced to its minimal constituents, the work explores the tension reflected in the sudden action and resultant reaction of these two small invertebrate sea creatures - a reductionist approach to understanding the nature of complex things by reducing them to elemental interactions of their fundamental components.
